Lansing Can Do Better Than Another Coal Plant.

In July of 2008, the Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL) unveiled a proposal for another coal-fired power plant to be built in Lansing. This proposal was crafted behind closed doors without first obtaining approval or input from Lansing residents and BWL ratepayers - the rightful owners of the BWL.

We can do better!

Putting another coal plant ahead of clean energy technology is a bad investment; it will hurt jobs and saddle our city with an outdated coal-burning facility for the next 50 years. It will harm public health and contribute to global warming. It will send a signal to the rest of the world that we are not serious about developing a 21st century economy based on clean energy and efficiency. We need an energy plan that will move us forward, rather than keeping us stuck in the past with technology from the 1950s. We can and should do better.

Take Action!

Please join us in sending an email to the BWL telling them that Lansing should be prioritizing a  clean energy future which protects against dangerous global warming carbon dioxide, instead of rushing to build more outdated coal plants. Instead, leaders should be modernizing Lansing by investing in clean, renewable energy and efficiency. Let's send a signal to the rest of the world that Lansing is serious about moving our city into the future, not clinging to the past.
